Barcelona beat Lyon to win Women’s Champions League

Barcelona secured their second consecutive Women’s Champions League title with a 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais, thanks to second-half goals from Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas. This win marked a significant achievement for Barca, who had previously lost to Lyon in the 2019 and 2022 finals. The team displayed a perfect blend of organization and individual brilliance to defeat the most successful team in the competition’s history in a closely contested final.

The match, held at the San Mames stadium in Bilbao, saw Barcelona withstand an early scare when Lucy Bronze almost scored an own goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the woodwork. Lyon also had a near miss when Vanessa Gilles cleared a Mariona Caldentey shot off the line.

Despite these close calls, the first half ended goalless. However, in the second half, Barcelona’s strategic play paid off, with Bonmati and Putellas finding the net to seal the victory and delight their numerous fans in attendance.
