Tyson Fury’s next fight has been confirmed after he lost his heavyweight title unification bout against Oleksandr Usyk on Sunday.
‘The Gypsy King’ suffered a split decision defeat against the Ukrainian in Riyadh – his first loss in professional boxing.
Fury controlled the early stages of the fight but Usyk managed to score a knockdown in round nine that changed the course of the bout completely.
Although he managed to get through to round 10 and recover, the judges awarded the fight to his opponent with scores of 115-112 to Usyk, 114-113 to Usyk and 114-113 to Fury.
The Morecambe-based boxer announced in the fight’s immediate aftermath that he wanted to activate his rematch clause to take on Usyk in October.
There had been no confirmation of such a clause being triggered by Tuesday – but his promoter Frank Warren has now announced that Fury will indeed face off against Usyk in a rematch later this year.
