OJ Simpson’s lawyer confirms his cause of death: ‘He thought it had beaten it’

The infamous OJ Simpson, one of the best running backs in NFL history, a Hall of Famer and MVP, was known mainly for his controversial acquittal of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman back in 1994, passed away earlier this month on April 10.

And while the public knew that OJ suffered from cancer, it was unknown up until this day if the former NFL player died because of this illness. Indeed, according to People, Simpson’s longtime lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, confirmed that his client passed away due to metastatic prostate cancer.

OJ Simpson announced that he had cancer back in May 2023, and LaVergne stated the following regarding the former NFL player’s illness and subsequent death at 76 years old.

I was pretty certain it was prostate cancer; ultimately, that was the cause. He thought it had beaten it, I thought this was done, but you know how cancers go. They come back, and they come back with a vengeance.

OJ Simpson’s battle with cancer

Although there had been previous rumors about his deteriorating health, it was only two months ago that it was revealed that Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at a Las Vegas hospital.

A few months ago there was a rumor that he was very ill and in palliative care, although it was also denied by OJ Simpson, what did come to light were images in which he is seen walking with difficulty with the help of a cane.
