Jose Mourinho backs Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim for success despite Liverpool snub – amid continued links to West Ham

GOAL

Jose Mourinho believes Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is capable of managing any club despite Liverpool snubbing him for Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Sporting boss was linked with Liverpool and West Ham but the Reds went off the 39-year-old after he flew to London to speak with the Hammers. The Merseyside outfit are now closing in on Feyenoord manager Slot, but despite them not pursuing Amorim, fellow Portuguese Mourinho has sung his praises.

WHAT JOSE MOURINHO SAID

He said, via Mais Futebol: “It’s also a question I shouldn’t answer, but what can I tell you? I like him [Amorim] as a person, I like him as a coach. I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club. It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him or want to convince him, with more or less arguments. What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach.”
