Elon Musk mocks Meta following outage

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, took a humorous jab at Meta on Tuesday, as the social media giant’s applications, including Facebook and Instagram, experienced a widespread outage.

In a tweet via X, formerly Twitter, Musk quipped, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.” He also shared a meme depicting X as the captain leading a team comprised of Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.

The outage affected Meta’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, for over 30 minutes, leaving users worldwide struggling to access their accounts. The disruption occurred around 3:45 pm Nigerian time, causing frustration among users.

Acknowledging the issue, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone posted on X, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

Reports of the outage flooded in from across the globe, indicating its global scale. Users encountered various issues, from being locked out of their accounts to receiving “change password” prompts. Many also experienced difficulties refreshing their feeds.

Interestingly, WhatsApp, another platform owned by Meta, remained unaffected by the outage, providing a contrast to the disruptions faced by other Meta services.
