Drake loses $615,000 bet as Anthony Joshua knocks out Francis Ngannou

Canadian international rapper Drake experienced a significant setback, losing a staggering $615,000 bet after Anthony Joshua delivered a knockout blow to Francis Ngannou in their highly anticipated heavyweight showdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The clash, titled ‘Knockout Chaos,’ witnessed Joshua secure a brutal knockout against Ngannou in the second round on Friday night, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Renowned for his penchant for placing substantial bets on sporting events, Drake had earlier taken to Instagram to announce his $615,000 wager on Ngannou to triumph over Joshua. “Betting on a scary man,” Drake proclaimed.

Drake’s support for Ngannou echoed sentiments shared by many combat sports enthusiasts who believed Ngannou had the potential to emerge victorious. Had the bet succeeded, Drake stood to win a hefty $1.9 million.

Despite his occasional wins and losses in betting, Drake has become associated with the infamous “Drake Curse,” a notion perpetuated by fans who attribute misfortunes of athletes and teams to Drake’s association with them.

Notable victims of the purported curse include quarterback Johnny Manziel, UFC fighter Kamaru Usman, tennis star Serena Williams, and the entire Kentucky Wildcats basketball team in the United States.

In January, Drake suffered a significant loss of over half-a-million pounds when his bet on Sean Strickland to defend his UFC middleweight championship against Dricus Du Plessis proved incorrect.

However, Drake’s fortunes reversed in 2023 when he successfully wagered on YouTube boxer Logan Paul to defeat Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis in their Misfits Boxing fight. This victory earned Drake a substantial $1.3 million payout after Danis was disqualified in the final round.

Prior to this success, Drake experienced a setback when Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya failed to secure a knockout victory against Sean Strickland in their UFC middleweight title clash. Drake had placed a $920,000 bet on Adesanya, hoping for a knockout victory, but Strickland’s upset victory on points dashed his hopes.

Drake’s rollercoaster ride in the world of betting highlights the unpredictable nature of sports outcomes and the financial risks associated with high-stakes wagers.
