Chelsea set to confirm Sonia Bompastor as their new head coach

Chelsea Women are poised to announce Sonia Bompastor as their new head coach, succeeding Emma Hayes who led the team to another Women’s Super League triumph before leaving to manage the United States Women’s National Team. Bompastor, currently at Olympique Lyonnais Feminin, has an impressive track record, having guided Lyon to a Women’s Champions League victory in 2022 and securing three French top-flight titles. She is expected to bring her assistant, Camille Abily, with an official announcement likely after the upcoming Women’s Champions League final where Lyon faces Barcelona.

Simultaneously, Chelsea’s men’s team is on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has emerged as a leading candidate, with Chelsea optimistic about a swift hiring process despite competition from Manchester United.

Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca is also being considered, having led his team to a Championship title this season. The final promotion spot to the top-flight will be determined in the Championship play-off final between Leeds United and Southampton.
