Arsenal make Jorginho contract decision with ex-Chelsea man’s current deal set to expire this summer

Arsenal are reported to have offered a new contract to veteran midfielder Jorginho ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Athletic has reported that Jorginho is expected to sign the offer of a new deal, which appears to be instead of simply triggering the one-year option that was included in the original 18-month contract he signed upon joining the club in January 2023. The length of the new proposal is not clear. He had said in the past about a desire to play in Serie A again before he retires.

Arsenal’s decision makes sense when considering the fact that Jorginho has made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season and establish himself as an invaluable squad player. Only 19 of those have been as a starter, but Mikel Arteta clearly values the Italy international when it comes to resting players or seeing games out. He has even captained the team on several occasions over the course of the campaign.
